New! Finely cut leaves resemble snowflakes.
Dusty Miller’s silvery foliage is now a very popular cut-flower filler for elegant bouquets. Silverdust has large, 3-7" long, velvety leaves with a magical snowflake appearance. Plants are uniform and produce yellow flowers the second year from seeding, primarily in the southern states. Flowers are commonly removed to encourage foliage growth. Tender perennial in Zones 8-10. Ht. 8-18". Avg. 59,600 seeds/oz. Packet: 50 seeds.
DAYS TO GERMINATION: 7-10 days at 72-75°F (22-24°C).
SOWING: Transplant (recommended): Sow 8-10 weeks before last frost. Do not cover seed as light is required for germination; a light covering of vermiculite may be used to help maintain moisture. Bottom water or mist to avoid covering the seed with displaced soil. Transplant into cell packs or larger containers when the first true leaves appear. Keep the foliage dry if possible and avoid watering late in the day to reduce the risk of Alternaria. Direct seeding is not recommended.
LIGHT PREFERENCE: Sun.
SOIL REQUIREMENTS: Average, well-drained soil.
PLANT SPACING: 9-12".
HARDINESS ZONES: Tender perennial in Zones 8-10.
HARVEST: Fresh or dried: Harvest stems at desired length. Hang to dry.
USES: Excellent bedding plant, great for mixed containers, and fresh cut filler.
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Senecio cineraria
